Things To Note:
- This spider web coaster is made with just six rounds of crochet and is easy to create. To achieve the curved edges, you will need to know how to single-crochet two stitches together (sc2tog). For the spider web's signature points, you will need to know how to make a picot stitch. If you are unfamiliar with these stitches, refer to the special stitches section below for guidance.
- While we used 100% acrylic #3 light worsted weight yarn (approximately 12 wraps per inch) to create these coasters, you can experiment with cotton or other yarn blends for a different look and feel.
- Although the recommended hook size for this yarn is 4 mm, we suggest using a slightly smaller 3.75 mm hook for a tighter stitch and a more defined look.
- This pattern includes color changes in round five. To make the transition seamless, switch to the new color by pulling it through as the last loop of the stitch before the change. This helps keep the color change less noticeable in your work.
- In round five, you will be working with two yarns. Carry the unused yarn along the piece and crochet over it. When it is time to change colors, pick up the carried yarn and make the switch as described above for a smooth and seamless transition.

Special Stitches
sc2tog - Single crochet 2 together is a way to decrease the number of stitches in a row or round. It is done by partially working two single crochets in two consecutive stitches and completing them as one stitch.
- Insert the hook into the first stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop, you will have 2 loops on your hook.
- Insert the hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop, you will have 3 loops on your hook.
- Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.
- This completes the sc2tog.
picot - A picot stitch is made using chain stitches and a slip stitch. It can be used as an extension to single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, or treble stitches.
A picot is normally 3 chain stitches, but if you require more definition, make it with 4 chain stitches.
- Create three chain stitches at the point where you want to add a picot.
- Then insert your hook into the third chain from the hook.
- Yarn over hook (YO) pull the yarn back through both the stitch and the loop on the hook.
- This completes one Picot stitch.

Finishing
Weave in any remaining ends. Gently pull on the pointed ends with one hand while holding down the spiderweb coaster to define the shape.
Depending on the yarn used you may like to block the coasters to give them a better shape and stop them from curling up.
Tips
- Count the stitches as you go to keep the pattern correct.
- Keep an even tension on your stitches to ensure a smooth and consistent appearance throughout your work. This helps prevent puckering and maintains the shape and structure of your crochet piece.
