Why You'll Love This Crochet Mini Tote Bag

  • Beginner-friendly crochet pattern
  • Uses simple mesh stitch construction
  • Quick project finished in about 1.5 hours
  • Great stash-busting project
  • Looks elegant and high-end
  • Perfect for bridal shower favors
  • Beautiful baby shower gift bag idea
  • Reusable and eco-friendly alternative to paper gift bags
  • Fun way to use color combinations creatively
  • Practical for small gifts and treats

These mini tote bags are one of those projects that look far more complicated than they actually are, making them especially satisfying to crochet.

Quick Pattern Details

Skill Level - Easy / Beginner Friendly

Time to Make - Approximately 1.5 hours

Yarn

  • #3 lightweight acrylic yarn
  • Three contrasting colors recommended

Hook Size – I opted to go down a hook size and use 3mm crochet hook, instead of using the recommended 4mm hook. Doing this created a tighter stitch, giving the bag more structure.

Stitches Used

  • Double crochet
  • Single crochet

Construction Notes

The bag is worked using an easy crochet mesh stitch pattern with contrasting color sections for a modern and stylish finish. Handles are worked directly into the design for a seamless look.

The Perfect Crochet Gift Bag Idea

These crochet mini tote bags are ideal for:

  • Bridal shower favors
  • Baby shower gifts
  • Wedding welcome bags
  • Birthday party favors
  • Small handmade gifts
  • Teacher appreciation gifts
  • Jewelry packaging
  • Holiday gifting
  • Craft fair items

Because they’re reusable, they also make a thoughtful eco-friendly packaging alternative that recipients can continue using long after the gift is opened.

Beautiful Color Combination Ideas

Using three contrasting colors gives these mini tote bags their stylish designer-inspired look.

Try combinations like:

  • Cream, beige, and black
  • Sage, ivory, and dusty rose
  • Terracotta, cream, and brown
  • Soft blue, white, and navy
  • Blush pink, taupe, and ivory

Neutral combinations create a chic modern aesthetic, while brighter shades can make the bags playful and fun for celebrations.

Turn the tote again so that the front is now facing you, thread the yarn tail onto a needle and sew the ends of the handle together, fasten off, and weave in ends.
