Things To Note:
- Skill Level - This pattern is suitable for confident beginners and up. If you have never worked a puff or bobble stitch before, this is a great little project to learn on.
- Yarn Type – I used 100% cotton, #2 sport weight yarn to make these crochet flowers. But you can use just about any yarn type or weight like, such as worsted or DK weight yarn. It is also perfect for scrap yarn.
- Hook Size - I used a 2.5mm hook for these flowers, but feel free to adjust based on your yarn or desired texture.
- Construction Notes - The flower petals are made up of two rounds, single crochet and modified bobble stitch. The flower center is worked separately, it is then attached to the flower center. When completed it has a slightly 3D effect.

They are also a great introduction to working with puff and bobble stitches if you are looking to try something new.
Petals
Foundation, col B – ch4, sl st into 1st st to form a ring.
Rnd 1 – ch1 (not a st), 12 sc into ring, sl st into 1sc to join. [12sc]

Rnd 2 – * MBO (see special stitches section above), sl st into next st, rpt from * 5 times, MBO, ch1 cut yarn fasten off and weave in ends. [6 petals]

Center
Rnd 1, col A – ch4, puff into the 4th ch from the hk, ch3, sl st back into the 1st ch, ch1, cut yarn, leave a longish tail, fasten off.

Finishing
Weave the end yarn tail under the puff to the opposite side of the starting yarn tail.
Place the puff stitch piece onto the center of the flower petals.
Use your crochet hook or yarn needle to draw the two yarn ends to the back of the flower between rows 1 and 2.
Secure in place by knotting the two ends together or weaving in the tails.
If the petals look a little flat, push them up from the back to puff them up.

Expert Tips
- Even sized petals – Draw up each loop to the height of the chain 4 when making the modified bobble stitch, this will ensure that the petals will look nice and even.
- Securing the flower center - If using for appliques you can knot the yarn ends of centres to the back of the work. If you are making these for a blanket or items where the back of the flowers will be seen, it is best to weave in the ends.
- Puff stitch center – When making the puff stitch for the center, place your finger on the loops on the hook as you draw them up. Doing this will keep the loops out of your way as you continue to complete the puff.
- Adjust Puff Size - If your puff center looks too small or tight, try adding one more yarn-over to your puff stitch for extra volume.
- Long Tail = Less Sewing - Leave a long yarn tail after finishing if you plan to attach your flower to another piece—it’s much easier to sew on securely.
