Materials

Yarn

#1 super fine (sock, fingering, baby, 4ply) cotton yarn with about 20 wraps per inch *

  • Color A – 6.5 yards (6 meters) per scrubbie

*Wraps per inch (WPI) - measures yarn thickness by counting how many times the yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. More wraps thinner yarn, while fewer wraps thicker yarn.

Hook Size

  • 3.5mm

Stitches and Abbreviations - US Terms

  • ch – chain stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • hk – hook
  • lp/lps – loop/loops
  • puff – puff st, see below
  • rnd – round
  • rpt – repeat
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sp - space
  • YO – yarn over
  • [] at the end of a round indicates the number of stitches in that round

Special Stitches

Puff  

  • YO, insert hk into st, YO, pull yarn through st (3 lps on hk)
  • YO, insert hk in the same stitch, YO, pull up lp (5 lps on hk)
  • YO, insert hk in same st, YO, pull up lp (7 lps on hk)
  • YO and pull through all lps on hk, ch1.

Note: to start the 1st puff stitch in the row, pull up the loop slightly before making the first YO.

Gauge & Finished Size

Pink, yellow and brown crochet face scrubbies.

Finished size is about 3.5 inches (9cm) in diameter

Gauge is not so important for this project

Instructions For

Foundation – ch3, sl st into 1st ch to make a ring.

Rnd 1 – ch2 (count as 1dc), 9dc in ring, sl st into top of ch-2 to join. [10dc]

One round crochet circle.

Rnd 2 – ch2 (count as 1dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-2, 2dc in next 9-sts, sl st into top of ch-2 to join. [20dc]

Start of a two round crochet circle.

Rnd 3 – puff in same sp as sl st, *puff in each st around, sl st into 1st puff to join. [20 puff]

Puff stitches worked in the third round of a crochet circle.

Rnd 4 – ch2 (count as 1dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-2, 1dc in ch-1 sp between puffs, *2dc in top of next puff, 1dc in next sp, rpt from * 19 times, sl st into top of ch-2 to join. [60dc]

Rnd 5 – sl st into every st around, cut yarn, fasten off, weave in ends.
